EU & UK: EU winter barley demand expected at up to 2 mln tonnes

The U.K. and Germany will fully use their small supplies of 2-row winter barley. Almost 4 mln tonnes of French 6-row winter malting barley has been collected, but the malting selection is still to be confirmed, H. M. Gauger GmbH said in their November report.

The analysts expect a domestic EU winter barley demand of 2 mln tonnes, plus an export potential of several hundred thousand tonnes to China.

As feed barley exports are active as well, the premium of 6-row winter malting barley must remain high enough to avoid too much flow-off into the feed sector.
